Reflexology
What is Reflexology?
The healing art of Reflexology is far more than a foot or hand massage. Reflexology is a pressure technique.
A Reflexologist uses distinct techniques and movements to apply pressure to specific
“reflexes”, and thus relax the body, release tension, improve circulation, and aid the body to come back to a natural balance.
The theory behind Reflexology is that these areas of the foot or hand relate to various organs and systems of the body. Pressure applied to these points is believed to bring relaxation and healing to the corresponding area of the body. Several clinical studies indicate that Reflexology may reduce pain and psychological symptoms, such as stress and anxiety, and enhance relaxation and sleep.
A typical session lasts about 60 minutes. A discussion will usually take place with your Reflexology Practitioner during your initial visit, and at the beginning of each subsequent visit. They will describe the session, give an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues, and ask about your goals and what you are hoping to achieve from your treatment. While receiving Reflexology you will rest comfortably on a massage table with your shoes and socks removed, under a comfortable blanket if you choose. Light, relaxing music is typically played. Loose, comfortable clothing is suggested, as your Reflexologist will be working on your feet and up to about halfway up your calves. If you are receiving hand reflexology your therapist will be working your hands and forearms.
During a session you will feel light pressure on the areas being worked. You may also feel a warming sensation or a tingling sensation or nothing at all but sheer relaxation. Most people say reflexology is very pleasant, and relaxing. Given that Reflexology is low risk, it is an excellent option for anyone seeking relief from stress and tension, anxiety, depression, acute and/or chronic pain, headaches, migraines, constipation, and/or seeking to promote their general health and well-being, relaxation and more. Many people use reflexology as part of their regular wellness and healthy-lifestyle routine, and it is widely offered in many wellness studios, clinics, hospitals, and many other health care settings.
